Wharton School Overhauls Curriculum to Focus on AI

The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania has announced a significant update to its curriculum by introducing a new undergraduate concentration and an MBA major in Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Business, set to commence in the fall of 2025. This initiative is designed to meet the increasing demand for AI expertise in the business sector, equipping students with both technical skills and an understanding of the ethical, economic, legal, and societal implications of AI technologies.
The curriculum encompasses a variety of courses aimed at providing a comprehensive foundation in AI applications within business contexts. Key courses include "Foundations of Deep Learning," which offers technical insights into neural networks and generative AI, and "Big Data, Big Responsibilities: Toward Accountable Artificial Intelligence," focusing on the ethical considerations of AI deployment. Additionally, the program offers electives in fields such as data mining, neuroscience, and data engineering, allowing students to tailor their learning to specific interests.
This curriculum overhaul is supported by Wharton's AI & Analytics Initiative, which provides resources like ChatGPT Enterprise licenses and fosters collaboration with industry partners. Furthermore, the establishment of the Accountable AI Lab underscores Wharton's commitment to responsible AI development and governance. Through these efforts, Wharton aims to prepare graduates who are not only proficient in AI technologies but also mindful of their broader impact on society.
